There are many ideas and practices to help take care of both your mental health and physical health during normal times. However, with our “new normal” one of the most crucial parts of self-care is being able to have some “you” time. Something like taking a long bubble bath or taking long deep breaths to calm yourself down helps keep a positive state of mind. Allowing yourself time to sit in a bath with the warm water and bubbles really helps one unwind and relieve stress and anxiety.
Another great idea to help keep you healthy and centered is to read books. This is a great way of keeping your mind healthy because it allows your mind to grow more, strengthen and broaden. Even reading for pleasure is still good for your mental health. Plus, even though reading may sound boring or a waste of time, it actually may serve as a great outlet for you if you want to escape reality and engage your imagination by traveling to different places or enjoying different experiences and being exposed to other cultures. Reading can stimulate your state of mind.
One of the most popular ways of expressing yourself and connect with your thoughts and feelings is listening to music. It doesn’t matter what music you listen to or what your preferences are, but what does matter is if your vibe is with it. If you are looking for a way to lift your spirits or to be your own unique and quirky self, then I recommend listening to music. Having a spontaneous dance party in your room is also great exercise and may allow you to look back at memories past memories. The fact is that there’s a playlist for everything such as working out, going on a drive, studying, having a dance party, etc. Music can motivate you to get things done, it can also be your guide to reflecting on parts of your life that were exciting, sad, or unique. Music can also bring family and friends together to celebrate or make amends. Music could help with that because it’s the medicine that helps heal your negative thoughts and creates unity with yourself and one another.
All in all, these three self-care ideas are key because during these times of social distancing in light of the pandemic, we all need to take care of ourselves and try to become better and healthier versions of ourselves. These ideas can serve as vital options to take care of “you” and your mental and physical health.
